Assessment Strategies

Portfolio

An art portfolio gives the student the option of choosing the pieces that they feel are their best. It truly gives the student the option of showcasing their masterpieces. The article on performance assessment strategies says this about using a portfolio.
"Purposeful collection of student work that tells the story of the students efforts, progress, or achievement in (a) given area(s)"
I think that using a portfolio as an assessment strategy is a very smart idea in letting the students showcase their best work, and feel confident in what they are turning in.

Assessment Rubrics

In the Emphasis Art book pages 62 & 63 they give example of some assessment rubrics. Where there are multiple things being assessed from behavior to progress. Using rubrics are a great way for students to self-assess themselves. Using rubrics is also a good way to show the students what you will be expecting from them. Using a rubric gives the student a great idea at what their grade will be before even turning in the project.

Art Journals

Journals are a good way for students to express themselves and show their true feelings for the art project. Having an art journal helps the students be creative and being able to express themselves. Having an art journal also sparks creativity it helps the students come up with great ideas to use on some of their projects. An art journal is also a great way for the teacher to see the students potential.
